Pete Hoekstra has just been confirmed by Trump as U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands. In an interview with ‘Nieuwsuur’ a Dutch public TV news program, the reporter asked Hoekstra about negative comments he made about Dutch Muslims and instead of standing by what he said, he put himself in an awkward situation.
The Ambassador who describes himself on his Twitter profile as a “commentator on intelligence issues and the threat from radical Islam” was asked “at one point you mentioned in a debate that there are no-go zones in the Netherlands and that cars and politicians are being set on fire.” To which he immediately replied “I didn’t say that. That is actually an incorrect statement. We would call it fake news.”
Using Trump’s favorite quote against the news media he dislikes, he thought he was out of trouble. But the reporter run a clip of the Ambassador saying those exact words:
Wait! Did it just get worse? The reporter asks “You call it it fake news?” to which the Ambassador replies “I didn’t call that fake news. I didn’t use the words today”. At this point the reporter can’t believe what he just heard and turns toward the cameraman.
This guy has no shame. He’s in the same league as his boss Trump when it comes to lying and being proud of it. They are like “we’ll lie to you and if you find out we’ll lie some more”.
