A substitute teacher in Pearland, Texas, called the police saying she believes a 6-year-old Muslim boy with Down syndrome was a terrorist.
A local news channel in Houston reported that the elementary school teacher told police that the boy kept repeating the words “Allah” and “boom.”
Mohammad’s dad, Maher Suleiman, on the other hand said that his son was born with Down syndrome and “doesn’t speak at all”. He added “She claimed he was a terrorist. This is so stupid, it’s discrimination. Actually, it’s not implied discrimination, it’s actual discrimination.”
The event got the Suleiman family into weeks of trouble and stress because of two investigations, one by the police and the other by Child Protective Services.
“The last three to four weeks have been the hardest of my life,” said Maher Suleiman. “My wife and kids were crying a few days ago and I told them everything is fine.”
While the Pearland Police Department says that it has concluded its investigation and has found no need to take further action, the Child Protective Services department says its investigation is still ongoing.
Community activist Quanell X who got involved in this case said “In my opinion, based on everything I heard from the police department and speaking with the administration from the school, that this was a story piece milled together by a substitute teacher alleging this child was sexually harassing her, the teacher, and possibly being a terrorist”
