June 12, 2016, Orlando, Florida: A gunman killed 50 people and injured 53 in a mass shooting at a nightclub. Authorities have identified the gunman as Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, a 29 years old American citizen with parents from Afghanistan. The Orlando Police Department are treating the case as an act of domestic terrorism. There have been reports that the gunman called 911 right before the attack and pledged allegiance to the head of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria)the Levant.
The incident was the deadliest mass shooting and the deadliest attack on LGBT people in United States history and the deadliest attack in the U.S. since the September 11, 2001 attacks.
