Amira Shares How She Stays Positive and Grateful Despite Illness and Pain

As salaamu alaykum,

I am 24 years old and would like to share my story (in brief) and ask anyone who reads it to please make duaa for me.

I’ve been having stomach issues most of my life with continuous problems since I was 12 years old. After completing my second year in university I became so ill that I could no longer attend school. I was no longer able to work/internship, volunteer etc.

I went from being able to eat small amounts of food to none for a very long time. Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and hospital visits became normal for me. I had to get surgery for a feeding tube over three years ago and hoping to get it out soon. I had very traumatic experiences over the years and developed anxiety, panic attacks and things I can’t even describe.

Some people ask how I stay positive and actually the answer is very simple. I have faith in Allah. My life didn’t go as planned, I didn’t graduate with my friends, I can’t eat what I like, I have a lot of pains etc, but Allah has better plans for me. I also remember the many blessings I do have. I may be sick now but I have my parents and family to take care of me. I have my eye sight, I can walk and the list goes on. I was also blessed with an amazing Herbalist who dedicated years of his time trying to help me without giving up and trying to heal me with natural herbs. I have benefited so far and hope that my cure will be near.

I believe that focusing on the good parts of your life will definitely help you through hard times. For those who find their life is going smoothly, don’t forget gratitude and thankfulness to Allah as well. I pray to Allah that all my brothers and sisters, in every part of the world will have the best in this life and the next life.
